These are a few of my favorite projects:
Neighbourhood Legacy Project reclaimed deserted and rundown public parks through art. This massive undertaking ran over three years and involved multiple community partners. The result was permanent installations, collective artworks of over 700 people in three urban parks (Sorauren Park, Dufferin Grove Park, Masaryk-Cowen Park). They became icons in the community galvanizing public involvement in the care of local parks.
Urban Infusion Project brought at-risk youth together with fashion, theatre and film design students and professional artists to create a wearable art fashion show and exhibit at the Dufferin Mall.
Art Lives Here, a collaboration with Dundas West BIA, created a storefront community art centre with theatre workshops and performance at the Lula Lounge.
Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Path was a collaboration between Toronto and Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation communities creating designs for granite pavers in a new commemorative garden.
Kristen in Rio de Janeiro, 2011
With assistance from the touring office of the Ontario Arts Council (International Residencies), I travelled to Rio de Janeiro to help develop the supports necessary for the establishment of a community arts projects in the city’s the under-served neighbourhoods. The following are excerpts from "On the Road" reports published on the CELOS website detailing this journey:
